With our designer SS17 collections landing daily at The Hut HQ, now feels like the perfect moment to update the wardrobe ready to take 2017 by storm. While 2016 might go down in the history books as the year of the mule, bomber jacket and the inexorable rise of suede, this year looks ready to wash us over with a host of new and exciting sartorial trends. The Hut’s style editors have pored over our incoming collections as well as the season’s catwalks to offer a handy guide to the fashion trends you should be wearing to stay ahead of the curve in 2017.
Head-to-Toe Tonals
Once a fashion faux pas, wearing one colour from head to toe is a key look for SS17 (at least according to our friends at Alexander McQueen and Dior). When done properly, the season’s catwalks demonstrated one-colour outfits to be a powerful statement-maker and an easy way to look effortlessly stylish. Catwalk shows from Acne and Damir Doma highlighted the key to this trend; carefully select your chosen colour and balance light and dark tones to piece together a fresh tonal outfit.

Pastels
Take a look in any man’s wardrobe and you are sure to be drowned in shades of blue, black, white and maybe an adventurous military green. When it comes to colour, it is fair to say that we have been too conservative with our choices for too long. This all looks set to change for Spring/Summer ’17.
We’ve spotted an array of pastel shades arriving for this season and the trend looks set to give menswear a much-needed shake up. From blues and greens to pinks and corals, pastel colours from across the spectrum will inject your wardrobe wish a fresh new dose of colour just in time for the balmy days of summer.
Statement Stripes
Stripes have long been a staple in every man and woman’s wardrobe, particularly as we head towards summer. For 2017 stripes look set to go one step further to become the statement piece of your outfit. Whether vertical, horizontal, monochrome or vibrantly streaked with colour, stripes are the graphic statement you need to make in 2017.
Sports Tailoring
Sportswear has been infiltrating the fashion world for the past few seasons and has recently given the industry some of its most recognisable trends. The sports influence will grow and expand in 2017, with sports tailoring taking the trend one bold step further. Influenced by designers such as Gosha Rubchinskiy who is regularly teaming up with leading sportswear brands to bring a cutting designer edge to casual sports clothing, complementing your sleek navy suit with a casual sports tee or some monochrome Converse will give your formalwear a fresh rebirth for the new year.

Post-Minimalist
Minimalist designs from Scandinavia and Japan have made a big splash in the fashion industry in recent years as well as in home interiors, architecture and elsewhere. The trend is born again in 2017 in a new, exciting form labelled Post-Minimalism. Taking the understated aesthetics of minimalism at its core, post-minimalism embellishes the trend with premium detailing and fabrics to offer clean, ostensibly simple designs with a new luxury edge.
Florals
A springtime staple, floral statement pieces will be back in 2017 in both womenswear and menswear. While womenswear will be incorporating vibrant seasonal floral prints, the male take on the trend will be more subtle with more subtle tonal patterns featuring on summer-ready fabrics.
