6th August marks a life-changing day in the world for A Game of Thrones fans. It was on this day 20 years ago when George R.R. Martin, a relatively unheard of author at the time, released the first book in his epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire. The opening book was titled A Game of Thrones, and despite being nominated for two awards in 1997 (The Nebula Award and World Fantasy Award), the book went fairly unnoticed until it gained considerable popularity over a decade later. The series, by this point five books in, was picked up by HBO for a television series in 2011, and A Game of Thrones soared to the top of the New York Times bestseller list along with the following books in the series. The book and television series have both gone on to huge critical and commercial success around the world, seeing George R.R. Martin dubbed "the American Tolkien" by Time Magazine and frequently cited in lists of the most influential lists in the world.
To celebrate 20 years since A Game of Thrones came into the world, The Hut has put together a fun quiz to determine which of the series' iconic houses you would belong to. Find out whether you are a Stark, Lannister or Targaryen below:
